🚨 Hurricane Milton 🚨

Hello, everyone...

We have a more somber blog post for you all today. Hurricane Milton is barreling towards Florida's West Coast just two weeks after Helene left a path of destruction through the southeast US states. Meteorologists are saying Milton will make landfall tomorrow, Wednesday October 9th, around 7 PM CST as a Category 3 Hurricane. It is now the fifth most powerful Atlantic hurricane on record, with its highest maximum sustained winds reaching 180 mph, Milton also has the third-fastest period of rapid intensification in the Atlantic after Wilma and Hurricane Felix and is the fastest in the Gulf of Mexico. Residents in Tampa are expected to get up to 15 feet of storm surge.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the path of Hurricane Milton and with those that have been devastated by Hurricane Helene.

In light of these events, we at Essco have prepared a short video detailing our support to those who have already been devastated by Hurricane Helene and those that are about to be hit in Florida by Milton.

If you are interested in making a donation, here is a list of organizations to consider:

1. Operation Helo

Operation Helo uses helicopters to deliver critical supplies to disaster-stricken areas. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, they are helping communities in North Carolina by flying in food, water, and medical aid to locations that were otherwise inaccessible. They also conduct search and rescue missions and medical evacuations, relying on donations to fund aviation fuel and other resources.

2. Project HOPE

In response to Hurricane Helene, Project HOPE has been providing critical aid in western North Carolina by distributing medical supplies, clean water, and hygiene kits to affected communities. They are addressing the spread of waterborne diseases due to sewage overflow and offering mental health support to overwhelmed healthcare workers and residents.

3. Americares

Americares is a health-focused relief organization that responds to emergencies worldwide. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Americares has deployed teams across the southeastern U.S., including Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, focusing on delivering medical supplies, hygiene kits, and providing emergency funding to local health centers. They are also helping to restore healthcare services in isolated, storm-damaged communities by coordinating the installation of water purification systems and providing bottled water.

4. Red Cross

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the Red Cross has provided shelter and emergency supplies to thousands of evacuees across the Southeast, deploying hundreds of disaster workers and emergency vehicles to distribute meals and relief. As Hurricane Milton approaches, they are preparing evacuation shelters and mobilizing workers to assist affected communities, urging residents to follow evacuation orders for their safety.

5. Feeding America

Feeding America has responded to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene by sending out 42 truckloads of food, water, and disaster supplies to food banks in impacted states like Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. They have worked with local authorities to restore food distribution and support affected communities.

6. Caring for Others

Caring for Others activated its "All Hands Mission" to provide relief in response to Hurricane Helene, delivering essential supplies like food, water, and financial assistance to impacted communities. They are focused on long-term recovery and have set a goal of raising $2 million to support their efforts.

7. BeLoved Asheville

BeLoved Asheville responded to Hurricane Helene by mobilizing volunteers and resources to provide essential supplies such as food, water, and diapers to those most impacted. They also conducted wellness checks for vulnerable residents in hard-to-reach areas and are preparing for long-term recovery efforts, including addressing homelessness as winter approaches.

8. Global Empowerment Mission

The Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) provides rapid disaster relief and long-term recovery support worldwide. In response to Hurricane Helene, GEM delivered critical supplies such as food, water, and hygiene kits, while also supporting rebuilding efforts. GEM has already pre-positioned critical supplies and is ready to respond immediately after Hurricane Milton hits. Their preparation includes mobilizing resources for delivering food, water, hygiene products, and emergency aid to impacted communities.
